I'm looking for an impeller for my old chrysler 9.2 horse. With the price of gas its cheaper than my 25 horse evinrude. I have only found one place online to purchase one. With the part it is marked that it is to be used on a 9.2 hp "with full gear shift". What do they mean by that? Also, does anyone know if any other motor type parts cross reference to this white elephant (such as the 9.9 Chrysler parts, or possibley mercury parts at or about the same Hp)? Thanks for the information!

Didnt know chrysler made a 9.2 HP. Are you sure it isnt a 9.9HP? Do you have a model number for this motor?

I cant find that HP model on any of the material I have, however my clymore shows that motor. The clymore shows either a one piece or two piece lower unit for models 4.4 to 15 HP motors. Is yours one piece or two piece? You may want to check with Franz at chrysler crew. Here is the web address
http://www.chryslercrew.com/

clymore is a service manual. Syloc and clymore are the main commercial service manuals for outboards. When you are at chrysler crew you can buy a parts and factory manual online. I prefer the clymore because I am not a mechanic and it is more informative. Thursday night they used to have a chat there. If franz is there he will be able to help you find the correct impeller for your motor.

Yep, its a 1966 model and acording to the model number it should be electric start. The full shift refers to models that have R-N-F shifting which according to my manual, yours does. A 67 model would have the number 9741. Don't know if its still makes a difference but the oil ratio for that engine is 24:1.

Re: Found the 67 9.2 chrysler impeller. Whats "full gear shift".

Thanks guys! Found this out also from the man I'm getting my parts from! He says he has a bunch of NOS if you know anyone that needs parts to fit the 66-67 9.2.(laingsoutboards.com) Also, I've received the impeller and it's not exactly the same as the one I removed. The "original" had ten blades and the replacement has six. The "body" of the "original" has a brass bushing encased by the rubber piece with the blades. The rubber base is slightly larger making the blades slightly shorter than the new one, which, as I said only has six longer blades and is made of all rubber as far as my naked eye can see(all other specs match). I have to wonder if the previous owner installed the wrong part or if the "blade spec" changed. Any help here as to wether this will cause me any cooling problems. I'm assuming (dangerous thing to do) that less longer blades will move as much water as more shorter blades. Thanks Capt. Ken for the oil ratio info! I've been using the ratio that the previous owner told me which was 50:1. I've always had a tendency to run it a little rich with oil. It's a good thing. I hopefully haven't done major damge to the rings, piston, cylinder, etc. Now I really wonder if the man put the right part in to begin with!

Ahhhh, the old 6 blades vs 10 blade discussion....
Either will work, each has thier own aplication but I have used both and they both worked for me.
