Hello,

Is this engine considered a Force, just a Chrysler, or both? Can the model no. 757 HB12937 be used to determine the year of the engine? And now the BIG question...

When I connect my battery, I get a large spark, and the starter cranks the engine about three times, pauses for about 10 seconds and cranks another three times. This goes on regardles of having the key in the ignition (even in off position), and I've also disconnected all of the leads to the ignition. My best guess is that there is a bad ground somewhere in the harness?

I know the mechanical parts like the starter, voltage regulator, etc. are good because they were replaced last year and we used the boat liberally through the summer - it ran great. I'm sure this has to be electrical in origin.

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me so I can get the boat back on the lake!!
regards, M Phillips

757HB is a 1975 Chrysler. The numbers following it is probably the serial number. As novicetech mentioned are you sure you did not reverse the leads when hooking the battery up? If you did your rectifier is shot. I doubt a bad ground would give you this result. Sounds more like a short on the hot side.

When the starter turns does it turn the flywheel clockwise or counter clock wise?

That almost sounds like the ignition switch or starter soleniod is shorted. Try disconecting the thick red wire from the starter solenoid to the starter and hook everything else back up.

Re: Starting my Chrysler 75HP Model 757HB12937 - Questions

I disconnected all of the leads behind the ignition switch. Red, Purple, Blue, Yellow, Green, Black. That's all, I think... I'll check again tomorrow. What should I get when I disconnect the red solenoid wire? After hooking up all the ignition switch wires? Thanks!

If you have an ohm meter do this. Remove both big wires to the starter solinoid. If you are unsure where the solinoid is or what it looks like look here
Pictures

connect one test lead of the ohm meter to the solinoid posts where you removed the wires. You should have infinate ohms. If you have zero or near zero ohms your solinoid is shot.

I know I did not reverse the leads when I hooked up the battery. I believe the flywheel is turning clockwise, something I will double check tomorrow. Like I said, last summer it all was working fine, and the only thing I've done since is store it for the winter. I just got a voltage/ohm meter, so I will try testing the solenoid tomorrow as well...
