On my Chrysler the button you pull out is for nuetral warm up- Basically if you pull that button out you can rev the motor without engaging the propeller -- as far as year it looks like 1984- but not 100% sure -- as far as I can find they only made the 60 hp for 1984-1985 -- maybe someone else on here can verify that for sure

With that button out, the motor will never go into gear. it controls neutral warmup only. look at the towershaft and see if the cam is in the way preventing the towershaft from going forward. If it is, I would suggest removing the cables and working the towershaft by hand so you can see where it needs to be adjusted and also to give you a better understanding of how it works. Work slowly, be patient. Remember this is fun.

The motor is from either 1974 or 1975. Pretty rare motor.

Re: chrysler controls trouble hooking them up!

here's how my '74 75hp chrysler is:
One cable controls the shifting via a rod at the front of the motor that goes down into the motor leg. The other cable controls the carbs as well as the advancing of the distributor via a shaft that has a linkage that connects to the dist- this shaft has a cam that can prevent the motor from going into gear-
did the motor have the cables on it before? try to see if you can look at the old cables to see where they attached to the linkages-
