For some reason I've lost power this year. I've check cyclinder compression and all 4 cylinders are within 2 psi of eachother at 150 psi. The carb linkage is set properly. The carbs are extremely clean. but I can't get the engine above 2000 rpm's. I've got a 15 pitch prop on the motor. It really has me puzzled.

The spark plugs (fixed gap) look normal and the engine is not mis-firing (at least it doesn't sound like it)

Any suggestions??

Verify the carb throttle butterflies are wide open at full throttle. I would replace the diaphram on the fuel filter and then test it again. NAPA part 18-7806 cost about 10 bucks.

Also verify that the tank is venting. Unscrew the gas cap when the motor is running and see if it improves the condition of the motor. If you ran the motor with the vent closed it could have damaged the fuel pump diaphram

Re: 1988 Force 125 Hp No Power

I'm wondering if I have the same problem.

I have an 84 - 125. When I filled up the tank last time, the hose clicked off and I got some overflow out of the fill hole, not out of the vent.

The lake was very rough and we hit a few waves that caused the engine to sputter . It quit a short time after that and would only come up to 2000 RPM.

We took a slow ride in under our own power. The entire time depending on which side of the wave we were on the engine could sputter like it would stall or ir might rev higher like it was ready to go. I was pretty sure it was acting like not getting enough gas.

I opened the fuel filter and it looked clean, I thought about venting the tank and opened the gas cap but nothing made it better.

eurolarva, is it the same part number for my 84? I haven't looked at the vent for the tank yet, any suggestions on how to diagnose a problem there?

thanks!
Jeff
