This is my first time owning a boat, picked up a 67 14' alumicraft to get my sons into fishing. Glad to see there are helpful forums such as yours to answer novice questions. The motor i have questions on is a 7hp Chrysler model 703 serial 4576 year 1969. My boss was given it a couple of years ago and told the only problem was the fuel pump. He recently gave it to me as he had no time to repair. Upon getting it the fuel pump was disassembled. I purchased a repair manual and gasket kit and went to town. The repair manual though shows a gasket between the powerhead mounting and diaphram then the reed plate then a second gasket and cover. The kit has a third gasket that looks the same as the one that goes against the powerhead. There was no diaphram when i recieved the motor but it appears to have had possibly both gaskets that look the same between the reed plate and the powerhead and im assuming the diaphram between the 2 gaskets. that is how i assembled it but not sure if its correct. I tried to get gas through and found inlet line to pump was pinched and plugged so it wasnt recieving any gas to pump. I replaced the line and primed with bulb and got good gas flow out of outlet of pump but when i tried pulling starter rope i did not get flow out of pump. This is why im questioning the 3rd gasket placement or could something else be wrong. I pulled about 10-15 times till my rope broke but no flow unless using the primer bulb. Also if you can tell me the correct fuel / oil mixture. I see alot of the chryslers use 50/1 but have seen also the 6hp model at 16/1. My manual does not say.
Also any help where i could find a breakdown of parts would be helpful.I would like to replace waterpump impeller also but have not had any luck finding part numbers for this model engine. Thank you in advance for your time and any imput you can give me on my little project.

Re: Chrysler 7hp questions

Hello toolturnr and welcome to iboats. Finding a parts break down for a motor online is tough. Try http://www.chryslercrew.com/ and maybe you can download a service manual and a parts manual from them. Here is a blowup of a 6hp from 1979. Chrysler didnt change much in the fuel pumps over the years so this maybe of help to you.
FUEL PUMP

Thank you Eurolarva!! The breakdown of the fuel pump you sent answered my question there and I actually did it right the diaphram goes between the two gaskets.
Now to find out why its not pumping.
Thanks again!!

If your engine is air cooled, then your oil-fuel ratio is 1/2 pt to 1 gallon. It's advisable to use an air cooled engine oil.

Thanks for the advice scotiany. Not to sound tooo stupid but if it has a waterpump/impeller wouldnt that mean its water cooled? Just getting my feet wet with these small engines im used to working on large diesels for a living.

Re: Chrysler 7hp questions

Toolturnr where in Minnesota are you from? I am in Brooklyn Park. That pump works off of compression. You should try a compression test. Make sure all fuel fittings are secure with no leaks. Disconnect hose going to carb and put the tip of it in a jar or can and prime the bulb and verify gas is going into the jar. If it does try pulling on the starter and see if gas still goes into the jar. If so I would consider rebuilding the carb. Needle valve may be stuck closed so fuel is not going into the carb

Good luck

Re: Chrysler 7hp questions

Thanks again eurolarva. Im pretty close to you I live in Blaine. Compression test was going to be my next step . Made sure it had good spark before i began fuel system repairs. I didnt try the jar as you suggested but i do get good flow out of line to carb when pumping bulb but had nothing while pulling it over. Didnt get a chance to get to the compression test when my rope broke... Ill have to pick back up on it this weekend if Im out of pain...lol Just got a root canal today. Thanks again

Re: Chrysler 7hp questions

I moved from Blaine two weeks ago. Was living up by Cub on Hwy 65. I have a compression tester and might be able to swing up there on Sunday. I have to pick up a grill cover from a grill store up there. I am not much help on the smaller outboards. If it was a 45 HP I could help more. My email address is ralgoetz@comcast.net. If you are around on sunday and need help I might be able to make it up there.
