i was using the trusty L drive today for about 5 hours, ran like a dream. i went and put it away for a few hours then went and got some more gas, put 18 ounces of oil and about 17.8 gallons of gas and topped it off. i took off and it was running fine for say 5 minutes then it sputtered and instead of cruising at 5000 RPM it sputtered to 3-4k. and kept sputtering like it wanted to move but couldnt. i turned the boat off and went back to check the enigne out. turns out one of the packs that has the spark plug wires coming out was loose and the ground had come off, i fixed that and tried it again same thing. so i just started fishing. heh. fished for a few hours then started her back up started to go and it was sputtering again. but then it just picked up and started moving along at 4500-5000 RPM and not really sputtering. the only thing that is different about before in the day and tonight is that i folded the speedo up so that it wouldnt roostertail. and the volt meter was reading near the first line on the 10Volt side of the meter. what could be causing this intermitent sputtering then picking it self up and moving along? i also blew the circuit breaker on the way back in but couldnt get it to trip again. thanx in advance everyone i will be trouble shooting with my book tonight looks like. thanx!

o yea and it revs fine in neutral, well seems too. revs through the range with no sputtering. also it might have a little more oil then gas cause i ran it dry one night on accident and had to make do with 5 gallons and a full bottle of oil. thanx.

17.8 gallons of gas and 18 ounces of oil ? ?

less than 10 volts? I would be looking at the high speed circuit of the stator and the rectifier.

so u think its battery related? could the low battery be bogging the engine? but then it picks up i dont understand it, the staotr is brand spankin new, the high speed circuit is the green/yellow wires right? is that gas/oil ratio bad?

gas:eek:il ratio is 50:1
1 gallon gas to 2.6 oz oil
6 gallons of gas to 16 oz oil
18 gallons of gas to 48 oz oil
suprised it didn't overheat.

I don't have any wiring diagrams for your motor, not sure how ignition is wired.

Whew !!! 48 ounces sounds better. I thought the "18" may have been a typo, thats why I asked.

How is it working?

fixed it, loose ground wire to the 1 and 2 cd pack, fixed it tightened it and it worked, a temp fix though i am going to goto work and get it soldered.
