A local guy has a boat for sale, but I'm not very good at the online NADA value and I think he is asking too much.
It is a 1997 Starcraft Superfisherman 170 with a *edited to 115 not 150* mercury and a 9.9 mercury and a bow 330lb thrust trolling motor, four removable pedestal seats, "tall" cockpit cover, live wells, bow platform for fishing seat with 3 storage lockers, rear platform for fishing seat with several storage lockers, side rod lockers, appearance 10 out of 10, trailer with brakes 10 out of 10.
Boat includes fish finder, stereo, and standard gauges.
He is asking 11,500 I tried the online boat value and I don't think that I did it right. I am interested in the boat and am interested in some thoughts. Thank you all.

KRS,

There are allot of extras there. The aux. engine, if in good shape, is $1,000.00 alone.

NADA is not going to give you values of all the extras.

You have to decide if it is worth it to-you.

Starcraft is a popular brand. Use the search function in your browser. Simply type "1997 Starcraft Sportsman 170" and then click go. You'll have more data than you can possibly digest but you will have an idea of relative value. Everything about this deal is dependent on the condition of the engine. It's nearly 10 years old so as a minimum I'd want on on-water test and actually observe a compression test. I'm with you, I think this rig is overpriced. I just checked my local dealer's site and they have a 2002 Alumacraft Tournament Pro 185 with a 115 Yamaha Four Stroke for $15,900 and you know you can whittle at least a grand off that.

Okay, called him, it's got 100 hours total on it, he is a retired airliner mechanic and did his own maintenance, the boat shows very well.

Pics coming.

Thank you for the input DJ and Upinsmoke, I'm wrestling with this one.

In this area that would be a fairly attractive price for that boat the way it is equiped and the extras.

KRS,
I have that same boat and it is great. But it is a 12 year old boat that only cost a little over 16K brand new.
That boat will fish in any water you can throw at it. I have even been outside the golden gate on mine.(smooth day with other larger boats.)
I wouldn't give over 8500 for it.
I bought mine from the original owner and have had nothing but fun with it.
Good luck

I was mentally toying with the figure $8,500 also.

it's a very nice and well maintained boat. totally agree with inspection and trial run. i see his point in what he is asking. 1st are there a lot of boats on the market in you area? what will it cost to put all the componets together. 2 engines, trailer, boat in that condition and the goodies. good luck and keep us posted. looks like he is running both motors of the same tank. i would want a 3 gallon aux. tank for emergenies, such as comtaminated gas.

Re: UPDATED with pictures, Starcraft value info

Aluminum boats of this type are fairly uncommon for the desert southwest. Our lakes don't suffer from the large waves and barge wakes that the Great Lakes would. Most fishermen go for a dinghy or the low profile bass speedboat.

The owner moved here last year from MN, where this type is much more common.

In my town, there aren't any boats for sale, no dealers, and only one small lake for rowboats.

I didn't think of pricing the pieces... I'll work on that.
