Sailfish low in water

I own a 1994 Sailfish 176 model. I noticed recently that it sits very low in the water. The transom is only 3 1/2 in above the water line.
I have a 115 Yamaha 2-stroke.
I spoke to Sailfish and they claimed that it was normal for this boat. It has a 70-gallon gas tank which is only suppose to have a 40-gallon gas tank. I feel there's way too much weight in this boat. Are there any other Sailfish boat owners that have had the same problem?
Thanks,
Frank

You could have some wet floatation foam. Go to the NADA website and determine the dry weight of the boat, then take the boat to a set of scales and check the weight to compare it to what it should be. It is possible you are carrying a few hundred pounds of water around with you.

I know that once I completed my resto on my boat, the stern sits 1.5" higher in the water than before. It is amazing how much wet wood weighs. just my thoughts

I agree with you since that was an idea that I had, we do have a scale in town. When myself and my mechanic inspected the boat we saw no evidence of water pooling in the boat. Is there a way of testing the foam?
