I recently replace the tilt and trim bracket with one from a 1990 model. I put everything together and mounted the motor. I lubed the steering assembly and tried to work the grease. The motor would turn all the way to one side (left if your facing the motor from the front), but the farthest it would go in the opposite direction is right when the motor is straight. I'm not sure if i'm supposed to twist it a little. I know that I did not kinked the line because that was my main concern. Do I need to adjust anything before jumping conclusions.

does the motor swing all the way right to left without steering tie rod connected?

Yes it does. It comes to an abrupt halt and refuses to go any further with the steering rod connected. I do not want to force it in fear I might strip or mess something up. The steering assembly is a single wire type and worked before I replace the tilt and trim assembly.

if the cable goes all the way left to right without motor AND the motor goes all the way left to right without the cable .... then your problem is in the tie rod.

maybe you stuck the tie rod bolt in upside down?
