Re: force 125hp

Check on eBay or your local merc dealer can order you one for you. It cost you a few dollars but it's worth every penny when it comes to diagnosing problems. Other than that, follow RRitt's instructions and you should have it. It's the exact instructions the are in my Force manual for adjusting the shift rod.

Well I took the lower unit off & apart. I think I found the problem. The clutch gear lugs are rouned off on the forward side pretty bad. The forward Gear lugs look OK. Should I just replace the clutch gear??

Yes, they are a Mercury dealer and sell genuine Mercury parts for approx 10% discount.

Thanks zindale I will do as you said. Iam having trouble getting the pinion gear off. I know the book says to get a special socket part # FT-7848, but I rather not spend $80.00 to get one. Is there some other way?? Would be thankfull for sugestions. If I have to I will buy the socket.

you can buy whole lower unti off ebay for $120 to $350. Buy two of them and treat them as disposable.

Well I got the pinion gear off. Wating on the clutch gear to arrive. The forward gear doesnt look that bad. I had already order the clutch dog before RRitt said to check ebay for lower unit.

Re: force 125hp

Been awhile. Order seals, but didn`t get the 1 for the water pump. Had to reorder finaly got here few days ago.
I have 2 questions
#1 the drive shaft seems to have about 1/4" up & down slop. When I took it apart I noticed the bearing race was not tight, but didn`t look spun or burnt, so I put some locktight on it put the spacers on to. Have not put the water pump on yet.
#2 the book says to torque the bearing carrier (spool) to 130 ft/lbs. is this right?? Seens alot of torque on this 4 small bolts

I`am still working on that. Untill someone can tell me if 130 ft/lbs of torque is right for the spool bolts. That is what the manual says, but seems like to much torque to me. Is this right or is the book in error?

Re: force 125hp

Which "spool" bolts are in question? The propshaft bearing carrier?

My factory manual for a 1995 70 hp says torque to 150 ft lbs.
So I don't think your manual is wrong.

You sure that's not 'inch' lbs?
