starting issues! 1986 bayliner capri cubby cab with a outboard force 125.

hi im new to the board and the to the water i need help. last year me and a buddy were out on a boat which is now his and something happened which caused the motor not to start. after pulling off all of the wires out from the back of the key switch i realized it was a breaker on the motor. we tried our hardest to put them back the way they were but no luck the starter and choke definiatly got messed up and who knows what else. we had to hot wire it. does any one have a blueprint or something that can tell me the order the wires go in? (please list by color not by porpuse of the wire) thank you

6 terminals on the back of the switch, labeled M I M S C B, correct?<br /><br />M - white wire<br />I - red/blu wire<br />M - blue wire<br />S - Yellow<br />C - green<br />B - red<br /><br />The white and blue wires on the "M" terminals are interchangeable.<br /><br />If these are not the colors of the wires you have, please list the colors that you do have.<br /><br />They used several different color schemes over the years, but these should be close to what you have.

hi roscoe great start thanks i didnt even know there were letters on the back. ok it is a six prong and there are letter labels on it it is too dirty to read now but i saw m b and i and all the colors matched except one. i have as fallows...<br />white<br />blue<br />yellow<br />green<br />red<br />and two purple wich are on the same prong.<br /><br />the two purple wires being the difference. and if its not a hassle and if you know would you be able to tell me what each wire does all i know is green is the choke. thanks

M - white wire<br />M - blue wire<br />The white wire comes from the cd ignition boxes. When the key is switched off, the white and blue wires on the "M" terminals are connected, the ignition is shorted out and the motor will turn off. These 2 wires will also run to your safety kill switch if you have one. Blue wire connected to ground. Originally the "M" referred to the magneto.<br /><br /><br />I - red/blu wire<br />Red/blu or Purple in your case, is switched power, which supplies power to your gauges, overheat buzzer, etc, when the ignition is on. "I" is for ignition switch on.<br /><br /><br />S - Yellow<br />Yellow is connected to the neutral interlock switch and then to the starter relay. "S" is for starter.<br /><br />C - green <br />Green activates the choke. "C" is for choke.<br /><br />B - red<br />Red is from the circuit breaker and battery.<br />"B" is for battery.<br /><br /><br />************************************************<br />M-Magneto (ignition kill)<br />S-Starter circuit<br />C-Choke<br />B-Battery<br />I- Ignition switched on

thank you very much it worked out great for me i was so lost thank you again. but now i have another problem before i got your message we tried wiring just by memory and when we turned the key the choke solenoid gave off a little puff of smoke and now its frozen open. is there any way to fix this problem or do i have to get a new one. if so is there any one out there selling one CHEAP! please..

Try taking the solinoid out and connecting a 10 amp battery charger to it and see if it will engage the solinoid with the plunger in. If the charger will make the solinoid work you may have fried the ignition switch.

thanks roscoe you help me with a staring problem with your explaination of ignition switch. mine was grounded cd units with key in run position. replaced switch good to go...
