Trent,

I'll butt in here, if you do not mind.

I thought TCW-3 met and surpassed ALL requirements that TCW-2 called for.

You are correct DJ, But I cannot say anything else as according to BillP Im not qualified, BTW DJ, Are you a petrolium engineer? If not, you should keep your comments about oil to yourself, as anything else simply wont do. :D

Re: Lubedude........Question

We were just working through a little bump in the road there.

You certainly can use the TC-W3 oil in place of the TC-W2. In fact, if you were to have any TC-W2 oil laying around, I would use it to lube my lawnmower wheels or something, DONT use it in any outboard. The TC-W2 oil was very much in need of a replacement, as it was causing lots of problems. Not to worry using the TC-W3.

Re: Lubedude........Question

Thanks for responding. But I cannot use TCW-III in these engines. It specifically says "Do Not Use Ashless NMMA Oil" on the filler neck of the injection tank. TCW-III is a "ashless" oil. Im wondering if Bombardier wants me to use only their oil?

Guess I should have edited my first post. Looked at it this morning and it did not say TCW2. TCW2 was a "low ash" oil and I guess thats where I got that.

Re: Lubedude........Question

Trent.

It would be very helpful if we knew what these mystery engines are.

Air cooled, water cooled? Outboard, aircraft, snomobile, PWC, motorcycle, model aircraft? 2 stroke, rotary, glo-plug, Diesel? Carbed, oil injected or DFI?

Many admonitions by manufacturers in past years have been made obsolete by new technology, ie: leaded fuel, non-detergent motor oil, etc.

If you are working on Bombardier-built DFI (Ficht) engines you must use an oil made specifically for DFI engines. Though their oil is not the only oil suitable it is certainly the best bet. Several Ficht failures have been blamed on use of TC-W3 rather than the oil specified in the warranty. Same for Optimax Mercs.

I suspect that the same would be true of E-Tec engines.

Give us more details, please. :)

Guess make and model would be good. :)

1995 Bombardier (Rotax 587) 80HP. Water cooled. Carbed with oil injection.Installed on Seadoo Twin Engine Jetboat.

LubeDude,

Understood-thanks. ;)

Trent,

Hmmmm. Everything tells me that TCW-3 should work. HOWEVER, I would very much be intertested to see what the Bombi oil can says on it. If the Bombi oil says TCW-3, I think we have an answer.

Re: Lubedude........Question

Here is an interesting artical on 2 cycle oils, its a long read so I am posting the link, there is a good section on your particular engines needs. You need an oil specified API-TC. My Boss is using at my sugestion the Amsoil HP Injector oil and Loves it, he was having trouble fouling plugs, put hasnt sence using this oil, It is the only one that comes to mind right now with that specification. Well here is the artical.

It appears that almost any TC-W3 certified oil meets or exceeds this specification, but make sure it is an injection oil.

2 Cycle oils

Re: Lubedude........Question

Thanks Lubedude....I have read that artical in the past. So now that it has refreshed my hard head. You run across any oil that I can buy locally with the API-TC spec let me know.

THis was why I thought at first that TCW2 might work?? THanks again.

Re: Lubedude........Question

I made an adition to my previous post but you probably neversaw it. You can use almost any TC-W3 oil if it is an injector oil. Im sure it will say API-TC on it somewhere. Look on the 100% synthetic Pennzoil outboard oil for the spec.

Re: Lubedude........Question

Since my name was slammed for caring about qualified individuals posting accurately. Yep, I'm concerned about bogus info leading people to trash their engines. It would help if people did their research prior to posting, not after. Facts speak for themselves in the following unedited quote.

You certainly can use the TC-W3 oil in place of the TC-W2. Anyone who goes by that statement is voiding the warranty on their Bombadier pwc and causing long term engine damage. Bombadier has made it quite clear (for years) that TCW-lll oil (is ashless) and will not hold up to the temps (350f) needed to protect their "high performance" pwc engines.

BillP

Re: Lubedude........Question

DJ... Found the old Bombi oil can. Its says nothing about TCW3 or anything else. Just says its for Seadoo and Skidoo oil injected engines. Also say its a "low ash oil". No specs on the can at all. NONE.

Re: Lubedude........Question

Bill, Ill do my best to explain myself. The first post i made, no mention of what Kind of engine was made, just that heis required a TC-W2, Well, TC-W2 was replaced with TC-W3. So I said it was ok.

Well, the artical says that the spec that this particular engine needs is API-TC. Pennzoil injector oil meets this spec. I told him to look for that spec on whatever oil he looked at. Show me where I went wrong. The ultra light guys are using the pennzoil injector oil with that engine, they seem to think it is fine.

Honestly, Im not mad about this or upset, Im not going there anymore, Its just oil. I thought I was doing right.
