Ok folks 3 yrs ago I got started tearing apart a car motor for a rebuild....Long story short, got laid off,and the cash just wsnt there anymore to work on the car so it sat..... worse part is car has amost a full tank, im guessing at least 18 gallons....What are my options.18 gallons would be tough to syphon(SP?) out and dispose of since the large quanity....Unfortunatly no fuel stabelizer was ever put in the tank as it was originally going to be a short term thing...Anything I can add (miracle in a bottle) to use any of this gas? I just had the Holley carb rebuilt as it was all gummed up, so I would hate to run bad gas through it right from the get go...
Any and all ideas appreciated.

Mix it with new gas... about one part to 4 parts new stuff, and burn it in any CARBURETED 4 stroke implement or vehicle.

Good luck. :)

Re: Old gas.... what to do?

Heyttown, get a syphon pump. Take two 5 gallon cans. Draw out 10 gallons and pour one of the cans into one of your other vehicles that has at least 15 gallons of gas in it. Go fill up the empty with fresh gas and pour it into your project car. Drive your project car down and top off the tank with fresh gas.

With the remaining can of old gas, just pour it into your other car when the tank becomes a 1/4 empty. I'll try to find a pump link on iboats.

Every boat should have one of these on board.

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...y=pump&**********=543434577&*******=608561217

I've had one in my boat for about 9-10 years. Never used it until last summer when I lent it to a neighbor to pump the gas out of his boat. It worked fine. Hold the pump as close to the ground level as you can. It will both pump and siphon.

Re: Old gas.... what to do?

had same problem with my old van...

I disconnected the fuel line that goes to the fuel pump, put a can under it...

Air hose in hand, put a shop towel around gas tank filler, gave it some pressure and this started the siphon.

probably took me an hour to get all the old gas out.

....check with local recycling places, a lot of cities will have a place you can take it to dispose of.

I have heard that it makes for a good weed killer. However I think it is surpose to be againt the law. So if you are a law abiding citizen, don't use it for that. ;)

If you check you will find there are few places for individuals to recycle old gas.

My buddy runs a shop and repairing fuel tanks is their specialty. It costs him over $3.00 a gallon to recycle. And then only in approved *sealed* 50 galon drums. Their advice is the same JB gave... burn it up! They only recycle extremely contaminated fuel.

Re: Old gas.... what to do?

I like the "gradually burn it in a functional motor by diluting it with good stuff" plan, and have used it many times with no problems (in fuel injected cars, too), but use a little caution.

I once drained less than one gallon of 2 year old gas from a lawn tractor and dumped it into my company car (03 Chevy Malibu) that had at least 12 gallons of fresh in it. About 1 mile down the road, it started sputtering and eventually died. Best I can tell it had water in the gas. After towing it back home I forced the car to start and run on ether (YIKES! it's jus a company car, they're tough!) for about 5 minutes and eventually the crap pulled through and everything seemed OK. Motor had an occasional "cough" for several tankfulls after the fact (I think it was still finding some small pockets of water as I hit bumps & turns), but no lasting problems.

Hopefully, since you have a FULL tank of bad gas, there was no room for condensation to build up and you shouldn't have any water in it. But you might be smart to dump a bottle of iso into the car you burn it with to help dry any water that's in there.

Ok....buy (3) 6 gal gas cans. Siphon old gas into these. Rent a car (budget usually has nice cheap rates...only gonna need it 1 day...make sure it is mid-size or better...remember you need a 18 gal tank). Siphon gas from rental into your car...and pour old gas into rental...return and complain about how lousey it ran.

:)

-JustMrWill

I was just reading these and had no intention of posting, but......

I like the mushroom cloud one.

I've almost blown myself away in the back yard trying to light the fire on more than one occasion.

My wife gets really pissed when she hears little explosions coming from the yard.

HEHEHEHEHEH

just don't get the great idea of using a shopvac to siphon the gas quicker.

Re: Old gas.... what to do?

I had a couple gallons of old old 50:1 mix and My daughter had a flea infested couch that someone gave her. I just saturated the couch with the 2 gallons of old gas and lit it. The fleas were gone, the gas was gone, and the couch was gone. I wouldn't recommend this because it made some awful looking black smoke and that cant be a good thing.

In the process, you also temporarily got rid of most of the mosquitoes in your neighbourhood :D
