The wheels on my "new" truck are a bit rusty. I tried some Navel Jelly rust remover on one of the wheels, it helped alot. Does anybody know if it will harm the tires if I get it on them? The main ingredient is phosphoric acid. It does come in a plastic bottle...

ZmOz
Had some limited experience with naval jelly.
If the rust is light (superficial), naval jelly will reduce the oxydized metal.
phosphoric acid will turn rust back into less rusted metal.
If heavy rust, scaly, you need to brush, sand etc. first.
Phosphoric acid will reduce oxydized metal. It will also combine with oils, fats etc.(your skin oils).
Dont know for sure, but think it is not a problem for your tire-SHORT (half hour or so)exposure, and wash off with baking soda afterwards.
Be happy, enjoy shiny wheels and boat often.
