Hey guys, just had to say this - I swapped to Redline full synth. a few mos. ago. Changed filter from Fram to a good Mobile 1 at 3-4K and added another qt. of 10/40. Drive the crap outta my 4.0(80 mph in 100 degree plus temps) and at 168K plus it doesn't loose a DROP! Pressure stays constant at 40+ lbs while cruising and HOT, drops to 25-30 and back up when oil cools. Wow worth the $6 a quart! I figure is good for 7-10K before change, although it is dark looking?

Heinz

Very pleased to read this post, I have a '92 XJ40 which is starting to show signs of oil pressure drop when it gets hot and I have been half tempted to move away from Jags spec of 15/30 oil. I use a fully synthetic oil which gives a good 40+ when cold but the pressure drops to around 20 when hot.

At 80 mph that 4.0ltr engine is only just ticking over.

Did you know that your engine was designed for 300K miles so you still have a good bit left in that one.

Im happy you are happy with the Redline oil, Its a great oil, But not to bust your bubble, your engine will go 300,000 miles with just regular oil and filter changes with a good quality regular oil. Now if you are shooting for extended drains, then continue using the Redline. I would suggest doing an engine oil analysis at this mileage just to make sure you are not getting antifreeze where it shouldnt be. If things are good, you can easily go 10,000 miles between changes.

Just for perspective, I put 273000 miles on my '90 Taurus 3.0 V6 before my daughter-in-law started driving it. She put another 10000 miles or so on it and then sold (gave)it to a young couple. It's still running. I used Pennzoil 10W30 and changed it and the fiter every 3000 miles or so. Changed the transmision fluid every 35000 to 40000 miles. Neither the engine or the transmission had a wrench on them (other than to change the plugs & service the transmission) during that time.
My view is to use a quality Dino oil, change it and the filter regulary, keep clean coolant in the system, and the engine will provide good service.
My truck has passed 183000 miles on Castoil 20W50 with the same results. It's to early to judge our other vehicles as they have under 100000 miles on them.
Bill...

My company keeps vehicles until 250k before they retire them. All we are authorized to use is dino oil, changed every 4k miles.

Exactly. 4.0s last forever even under abusive maintainence. Redline is great, but there's just no reason to spend more than $1/quart for 4.0 oil.
