Just a quick update on this project. Havent done too much until this past week when the floor went in. We decided to go with the CVT vinyl tiles. Got some furniture for the family room area. Things are not done yet, lots of details still to finish. Here is a before and after shot of part of the basement.

Looks very nice.....

1 question, is that a moisture problem to the left of the man painting? If so how did you treat it..

I have some landscaping issues and some water leaking along the driveway which that driveway way has some water issues. I would love to do something like what is pictured but affraid of the water problems coming back.
Any suggestions?

Re: Basement finishing project update....

Those big water stains on the wall were from construction before they even back filled. I know it looks like seepage but I think it was from rain or something.

But just to be safe and because there is a lot of radon where I live, I painted the walls with Dry-Loc water proof masonry paint. I called Dry-Loc and they said it did help prevent the seepage of radon gas. I notice now that they say that right on the label.

Dry-Loc is one of the few treatments that will stop minor seepage and dampness. If you are able to re-contour the ground so the water runs away, or install a curtian drain outside to capture and divert the water, then your problems should go away.

That guy painting is me. :p

Nice work Mark,
Whats your plan for the post? I think I would mount a small TV on it.

Thanks OMC!

I'm looking for a 12" round decrative split post to put around it. So far they are expensive so I don't have one! LOL! Just to the right behind the half wall is where the entertainment center and TV will be. I left a lot of space for a big screen TV because hopefully someday I'll be able to afford one.

Not sure exactly what this would have cost to pay a contractor to do it, but estimates around here start at about $100 a sq/ft!!!!!

Nice job! 4 years ago I added 840 Sq feet to my house. Did all the work myself except for cement, plumbing, heat / AC, and rain gutters. These seem like a big job at the time, but now after they're done, it seems like they didn't take long.

Jeff

Hi Mark42, last time I did a support column we boxed it with lumber and nice corner moulding, looked real nice and it's fairly inexpensive. I used 3 squares of 3/4 plywood, cut them in half, contoured them to fit the post and attached to the ceiling, floor, and half way up the post, makes a good nailer for the box. I added small pieces of wood to the the middle one and attached it to the post with a large worm radiator type clamp. This helps prevent bending if someone leans on the finished box. Good luck, Ken

Ken,

Thanks for the info. I may end up going that route too.

BTW I installed the pre-formed laminate counter tops from Home Depot that come pre-mitre cut for the 90* bend. Used an 8 foot and 6 foot piece and they joined really nice. Used the glue that come with the bolt kit and you can only see a thin line where the two pieces join. I added a piece of 3/4 fiber board to the under side of the seam to give a little more rigidity and reinforce it. Working great.

The counter top is for my office and I can't wait to get the PC's in this week. Boss has ok'd working from home one or two days a week and that will really help out with the cost of gas - I do 80 miles each day in a Town Car.
