Anyone know how to disable the processor serial number in the Pentium M processor? I have a utility I downloaded from Intel’s website years ago to disable the processor serial number in my old Pentium III, but can’t find such a utility for the Pentium M. Intel’s website says that utility does not work with the Celeron processors.

Note: the ability to disable the processor serial number was the result of a bunch of consumer groups jumping on Intel and Microsoft when they teamed up and tried to take over targeted marketing resources a few years ago. When you visit webpages they have the ability to download your processor’s serial number and that number is registered with Intel, hence your contact info and other demographics about you are linked.

Wasn't that feature located in the Bios for the PIII?

No. The ability to disable the psn was only available thru a patch utility that Intel made available on their website, buried deep inside of nested webpages. Finding it wasn’t easy.

From what I have been reading Intel may have abandoned the electronic serial numbers in their processors somewhere along the Celeron line. I don’t know where the Pentium M fits into all of that. I emailed Intel but never got a response beyond an auto-generated ack of receiving my query.

Ok, got an email reply from Intel:

"The Processor Serial Number feature was only available for the Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processors. It is not present in the Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processors."
