I will be a first time boat owner and I am in the market for a fish n ski. I have a wife and kids who love to fish but also will want to do recreational skiing and tubing occasionally. I'm looking at the skeeter, pro-craft, and nitro as perspective brands and kinda wanted an opinion on a way to go. I'm looking into a boat in the 18'-19' size. I've found a skeeter sl190 w/a yamaha v-max 150 and the dealer is wanting 19,500 for it. Not sure if that is a decent deal and what might be for a boat in this catagory. I live in the North Texas area and will be using the boat mostly on Lake Texoma. Any advice will be appreciated greatly.

Last summer I looked at new F&S boats but because we decided to find an older boat and pay cash vs financing (meaning my wife told me that). I ended up with an older ('84) Procraft which I really enjoy. I bought it primarily to fish out of but so far its been more recreation (tubing, lake cruising, etc.) than fishing. Have you looked at Triton? I saw a new Triton F&S at lake one day and liked its looks. Couple of things I wish they did better on F&S:
1 - rod storage
2 - Conversion stuff (?) to allow setup of boat for fish only trips. I find I'm either taking boat out to fish or to play. Very seldom do I try to do both on same trip.

Good luck in your search. Some folks don't seem to like idea of a F&S but I've really like options ours gives us.

BL...

Of course these fish-n-ski models are by the same builders as bassboats. So pretty much the same preferences can be applied. My short list would be Ranger, Skeeter, and Triton. You can find lots of info on bassboats at www.anglerworld.com

If you want to economize then an aluminum boat should save some $$. Such brands as Alumacraft, Lund, Princecraft, Tracker Targa, etc.

With that first boat a good dealer is really critical. He can save you a lot of headaches down the road. But you have to research dealers on a local basis. Never assume that your dealer "must" be good just because his boat brand is good.

Kelly Cook

just thought i would give an update on my situation. looked at triton and they were nice but too far out of my price range. also checked into the new pro-craft but he was wanting the same price for it that i could get the skeeter for and the pro craft only had a 125 on it as opposed to the skeeter w/the 150. so i went w/the skeeter. i was really impressed w/the way this boat handled on the water especially since the lake was pretty choppy the day we went out.
