I just purchased 1996 1650 lund with a 1999 Honda 75 horse power outboard. It came with two propellers 17pitch and a 15 pitch. Max speed with the 17 was 37 mph and 35 mph with the 15. The tach was reading 4800 rpms with both propellers.
I think the tach is bad. I pulled the motor out of the water so it would rev higher and the tach did not go over 4800 rpms. Any Idea what size prop this boat should run and how fast it should go?

First, let's forget speed...it's a direct result of a set-up, whether good or bad. The good way to start is with a new tach (most important gauge in the boat)then we can mount either prop and test-run for max RPM, compare that to engine manufactures WOT Recommendation and go from there.
Welcome aboard!!

Yeah- I think it is too. I have a 90hp Honda (same gear ratio 2.33:1)on a slightly larger boat - by only a few inches. The 15" prop gives me 40 mph at 6100 rpm thereabouts. The 17" cupped 39 mph at 5700 and the 17" no-cup 38 at 5900 - give ot take.
Anyway, I remember trying a 15" on that boat and it was a neck-breaker so I took it back - it revved the motor to high. Shouldn't be much different on yours.
That motor has a rev limiter at 6500 rpm and WOT range it 5000-6000. Peak hp is at 5400 and I typically use a 19" prop that maxes out at 5500.

Did you mate the O/B to the boat or did it come that way. I remember my Faria gauges needed some messing around with before they liked the Honda. By messing around, I mean the dial on the back of it. Maybe thats thats the only prob.

I have an Alumacraft Navigator 165CS with a 75 Merc Two stroke. It has a 19P prop. 5200 RPM @ 40 MPH (locator pickup). Haven't checked with GPS but will be doing that soon.

I installed a new tach, and raised the motor one hole on the transom. Runs 38 mph on the gps 5800 rpms. The boat feels much lighter with the motor raised up.I might try a 19 pitch.
