I know you guys are trying to help me get out of this Ballistic rut that I'm in (or am I), but I have a problem. I have a light fast boat and it is Merc driven and only 90 hp.

This disqualifies me from purchasing some of the more popular names you guys mention. They're made for larger engines, or bigger, heavier boats, or I/O's. You keep encouraging me to go and get a "real" prop.

Ok, what and where?

I just surfed the complete lineup of Merc props and nada. I even looked at the Merc Black Max aluminum...found one for $91 in 25 pitch thinking that a lighter prop would reduce my clanging with these high pitched, heavy, SS props. But that sucker doesn't appear to be cupped and I know I'll blow it before I even think twice about it.

I bought out of MWC catalog when I bought the 21 Ballistic. Can't find anything in their catalog that fits my application that's over 23 pitch in a diffent brand. Currently running their (Ballistic's) 24XP and it's great, but you keep telling me there's more out there.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a Scrooge McDuck, so I'm not going to BAM or someone like that to make me a custom unit. Ha.

But I don't need to tell YOU what's driving me in this curiousity loop...........the same thing that drives you (lots of you) to want more speed and performance and...."if I could just get one more mph...." Grin

Later,

Mark

Got room for a 13 3/4" diameter prop? You should be able to swing a 14" diameter I believe.

I have a 26 pitch lazer II that fits that motor.
The even # high fives also fit that motor. I have the same gear case with the 75hp merc.

Hey D, I will check. So, if I can, on a 15 toothed spline take me to your leader.

Hello Blue. A high 5 on this boat is out of the question. Too light a boat.

Thanks.

Mark

Hey Blue, 26 is a bit much, but I went thru the Laser II inventory and found nothing for my intermediate OB....but I will listen.

Thanks.

Mark

Mark... just for my own education on Mercs,...
What engine are you running (Year & HP)?
What size gear case is it?
Does Mercury have the same size gearcase with different # of splines (ie:13 3/4" case with 13 splines & 13 3/4" case with 15 splines)???

I was just looking at the TURBO Ones & they have 14.25 x 25 in the LARGE HUB size (14.25") & 13.25 x 23 in the MIDSIZE HUB (13.25").

I'm sure Dhadley will be able to hook you up with what you need.

Re: Well I just looked at the comple lineup.

The 90 Merc has the same spline count as the V6's, 15. Yamaha does that too. The V4's and the V6 Yamaha's have the same (15) slpine count. Evin / John have different size shafts and spline counts from V4 to V6 & V8.

I have several 26" 4 blade props in 13 3/4" diameter, I was hoping we could swing that but it sounds like we gotta look for a 24".

Re: Well I just looked at the comple lineup.

Boiler, yes on D's comments. Don't know if my gearbox is identical but my gearbox is 2.3 whereas those big boys are 2:1 or less.

On the high 5, too many blades for my application. Boat rigged with me and all equip only weighs about 1300#, aluminum, 3 step padded hull, 17'. 25" deadrise transom which puts the front of the skeg 13" from the transom at the bottom of the boat; 1 notch jacked, antivent plate about 1" above bottom when parallel.

Engine is '02 3 cyl 90, as mentioned 15 spline.

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Well I just looked at the comple lineup.

Well Sanger, I'm trying to remember what I was running on my '89 115 tower. I know that when I bought the BMT it came with a 24" something. Took it out the first time and hit 55 (17' Ranger Fisherman) but had a lot of chine walk and you could tell this prop was too much for this engine.

Then, as I recall went to Longview, in E. Texas to pick up another of these widgets but at a lower pitch......think it was a 21. Did have the blow holes and it worked well on this heavy buttoxed Ranger with a deep Vee and pad. Holes really helped get skiiers up with this arse heavy beast.

Just don't remember the brand and as I recall there were no whoopies cast into the side of the prop to help you understand just who's gadget this was.

Mark

Friday pm.

Hey D, measured the 13 1/2 x 24 Ballistic currently on the rig. I can just BARELY squeak 1/2" by the tip of the current prop and the housing.

A 14 would be a real tight fit, but might work.

Thanks,

Mark

Whoops!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just lost my mind.

D, too much funny water. After I punched the go button on my last reply, it hit me (right between the eyes).

I can take a 14. Just smacked me in the forehead that a 13 1/2 vs a 14 diameter is only a 1/4 inch radius increase. I am sitting right at a skinny 1/2" radius increase.

So, yes I can run a 14.

So, what's on your mind.

Mark
