I have a 1980 Glastron SSV177 w/a 165hp I6. The doghouse was recently recovered. There are two holes on either side of the doghouse that were covered over. Do those holes need to be opened?
i would say if glastron put them there yes. they are there for ventilation, which is very important on an I/O. you don't want fumes building up in the engine compartment.
No way that they are cupholders. They are on either side of the doghouse approx 5 inches up from the floor. I thought they might be old speaker holes. I recently bought the boat and I'm new to I/O's, so I'm not real sure what they are for. Would it make a big difference in the engine noise if I opened them up?
I'd check with Glastron directly. Who knows if they were there originally or not? I do know you need ventilation in there, but not sure if these were original. (Opening them up will increase noise for sure.)
