Electric fuel pump conversion

I have a 1990 7.4 Bravo. OD736979. My mechanical fuel pump died. While attempting to change it myself I apparently bent the rod that actuates the pump. After many hours and different methods of trying, the rod is not coming out of the block. I am going to use the Mercruiser conversion kit to switch to an electric pump. Are there any disadvantages to this or any draw backs? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

The Only Problem I see is that the Rod is going to Grind your Cam to Dust......................

The rod is in the down position. IT isn't jammed in, but it won't move freely enough that the spring from the mechanical pump will push it back up. The cam pushes it down with no problem.

OK,.......

You'll need to wire the Electrics thru an Oil Pressure Shut-down Switch,........
It Shuts Off the Fuel if there's a Loss of Oil Pressure......

It's Probably All in the Kit.....

It shouldn't be Too Bad if you're a Mechanic kind of Guy,.............

Bending the Tubing,....If Necessary,.....
Wiring it,.....
Hopefully the Kit will utilize the Fuel Filter in it's original location......

I honestly Don't Know,....... I've Never seen what Mercruiser calls a Fuel Pump Conversion Kit...........

So why not repalce the push rod? Remove the metal plate behind the fuel pump and it should slide out. You might have to raise the front of the engine if there is a stringer in the way.

Where did you find the kit at? Does it come with a block off plate? Can you get channel locks and rod out?

most the 7.4 motors with a mechanical pump on the block have a 3/8ths pipe plug just below the pump mounting flange, remove it,remove the drive rod. grease the drive rod with a heavy grease and reinsert it with the cam lobe on its heel. install the plug then the pump. aint no way you can bend that drive rod.
aint gonna happen.
its like a 3/8ths solid steel rod. you can break the pump but I cannot see you bending that rod.

Ayuh,.....I Agree,... But I Could see somebody Buggering it Up with,.... Oh, say Vise-Grips,+ Then having a Problem.......

After All,.... It's Also a reasonably Tight Machine Fit between the Rod,+ the Block.....................
