I just purchased a non-vro fuel pump for my 86 140hp Evinrude. The old one was already removed before the purchase. Can you tell me or have a picture where each hose goes. IE... Pulse,Fuel in & out. I want to hit the water soon so any advice is very appreciated.

Fuel in is on the front through the plastic filter cover. Fuel out comes out the bottom of pump. Theres no hose for pulse-pulses enter through a hole on the back of the pump where it mounts onto the block (there's a gasket here between pump and block).

Thanks for the pic. I see a 90 degree at the top of pump.
Is that where I attach the gas line from tank? Also the bottom of the pump has 2 outlets. I believe one is to run the pump and the other to the carbs? Not sure which one goes where. Thanks

The nipple under the large end of the pump is for the pulse hose from the block.

The next nipple back is for the fuel supply.

The ebow on top is the fuel outlet to the carbs.

Fuel pump installed and operational. d:)
Thanks
Doesnt idle very well. While choked runs good but I lower the choke handle to about 7 degrees it sputters and dies.
Thanks for the help.

That's a fast idle or warm up lever.

You don't have a choke. You have a primer pump that takes a little fuel from the fuel pump and injects it directly. It is activated by pushing the key in while the key is in run or start.

Does anybody know can you clean the carbs. without removing them? Such as carb cleaner from a can. Or do I ad it to the tank?
Engine fires up. But having trouble idling. Carbs. may be dirty? Just installed fuel pump (manual) 50:1 mixed in fuel.

You can , but it does very little or no good to spray , IMHO.

Usually if there dirty enough to cause motor to run poorly. You need to clean / rebuild them correctly.

Which means taking them off and soaking in carb cleaner ( be carefull if plastic , may just use spray to thoroughly clean them).

Blow out with compressed air and install new kits.

I allways get the kits with new floats , a few bucks more.

You may not need the new floats , thats your call.

I allways replace them .

If its only at idle check your plug gap . Mine idles great at .040

Rebuild cabs? Is that like rocket science? Ive rebuilt Holley carbs before but is this a whole different animal?
I dont want to bite off more than I can chew but all advice from this site has gotten me this point so close to success and I can see the lake from here. Im so close to putting it out on the water

If your experienced at auto carbs . It will be a walk in the park.

I'd sure do them ,before I put it on the water again.

Once they're removed / cleaned , it only takes a few minutes to install the kits.

You'll need to do a link and sinc, after the rebuild as well.

Also easy, just follow the steps ,no deviation.

Re: Re:

Just remember, those carbs are essentially the life of your engine...........not enough fuel to just one cylinder and your repairs will be much more costly. Much easier to rebuild the carbs than to dismantle the entire motor like myself. Take their advice and do yourself a favor. If you need help, your definitely in the right forum for it !!!! Good luck........ALAN

Re: Re:

Gapping the plugs properly really worked. Thanks
Now I had the engine semi-idling and water running through the lower end. there are 2 fittings I belive for (water) perhaps? above the spark plugs one above each side.
Does water shoot out of these and when? The hoses
were badly dry rotted so im going to replace them. I was just wondering does the motor have a themostat? Is water supposed to come out of those fittings? Or is this another issue I need to address. IE water pump or clogging?
Thnaks once again for the help.

Re:

The covers above the plugs are the thermostat covers. Leave them alone until you have your new parts (thermostats and gaskets) unless you are overheating.

Re:

the fittings above the spark plugs that you mention sound like pee holes and they should always have a nice flow coming out of them, otherwise you might need to do some work...

Re:

water should pee out as soon as the engine starts, maybe a second or two later but almost right away, does water come out of anywhere? how much ...ie: dribble, spray, stream. and/or does the amount of water that comes out adjust to the idle..say when you start the engine and have a high idle, does water come out (of anywhere) good/stream? we need as much information as you can provide.

the water should come out usually from a little black nipple on the outside cover of the engine (engine housing) if the hoses to them were corroded (from the engine block) then there should be nipples on the engine that water comes out of, but usually not real close to the spark plugs

can you explain a little more about the water coming out of the lower unit, are you referring to the holes on the back of the shaft?
