Ok, first of all, yes I am a newbie to this board. I am not an experienced outboard mechanic, but I am an experienced 2-cycle mechanic. I have been working on this outboard for a couple weeks now and have solved numerous problems. The one problem that is really stumping me is the Idle. Sometimes(very rarely) it will work just fine but most of the time it sputters and dies when put in gear. So far I have flushed out the entire fuel system with new gas/oil, new spark plugs, disassembled and cleaned carb(this looked immaculate), cleaned screen on starboard side of motor, checked pick up tubes in the tanks. Now, I am thinking about rebuilding the fuel pump or adjusting the fuel/air mix. Anyone got any thoughts on this. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Is there anything I may have overlooked? Please help me, It would really break my heart to put this thing in the shop. I pride myself on doing all my own work.d:)

Check your fuel recirculation system. There are some reed valves and screen type filters on those systems. The sreens get plugged up and the reed valves get gummed up. If the system is not right....the motor will not idle right and you will foul plugs quicker than normal.

I was not aware that there was such a system on this motor. could you tell me where to look for the reeds and such?
