Oil in gas tank?

I just recently purchased a 20' aquasport. The main tank is registering as full however I am uncertain whether there is the adequate amount of oil mixed in the tank or any at all. I purchased the boat from a widow who's husband had passed away in January and she had no idea about the history. The boat was used last october and I did put stabil in the tank to preserve the gas when I purchased in April. I have no way of knowing if the previous owner mixed oil in when he topped the tank off. I have been using a portable tank in the meantime. I would assume yes but don't want to chance it. Is there any way of indicating if the oil has been mixed?

siphon a little out in a clear container. You should see a blue or redish tint depending on the oil used. to the gas if it has oil in it. Of couse that doesnt' say it has the right mix. I would personally sipon all of it out and start over just to be sure. Fred

I would go ahead and mix it at 50:1 and assume there was no oil added to the existing gas. No harm will be done if it's double mixed.

Throw an couple bottles of octane boost in, add the extra oil, use it, and keep adding fresh gas and proper oil mixture until it just don't matter no'mor. Smell the gas first though..smell funny ?(you will know-like Shellac). If it passes the nose test..go boating.. just go easy until the old gas is pretty well used up.
