I have a 1989 Yamaha 40hp 2 stroke (40etlf) with Yamaha controls of the same vintage. There are some wires that come out of the controls other than the ones that go to the engine, can I hook gauges up to these wires? My Seloc manual does not have a wiring diagram for my engine and the Yamaha service manual is in the mail. Thanks in advance!

That model required a convertor box in line with the tach to work properly. One of the three cylinder quirks at the time.

I have the same engine. I've used a tiny tach. It took 5 minutes to install and was around $40.00 (I think). Just tell them you are installing a three cylinder engine.

This is prbably not the highest quality unit, but mine sits outside exposed to the elements and seems fine. I've only had it six months though. It was great for playing with different props.

That tiny tach looks great, I wonder how it will hold up in saltwater? It looks like it is geared towards lawn equipment and the like.

Not sure on the salt water issue. At $38.00 I was willing to take a flyer on it.
