I have a 1976 Mercury 1500 inline 6 Outboard 150HP That I recently installed a Tach Onto. I'm Not sure though, at what RPM This engine will red line. Does anyone have this info?

I would also like to know what the compression specs for this engine are if possible.

Thanks for everyones help

Thats a very close figure that Tim has given you. For many years Mercury Marine did not list compression figures in their service manuals, they said that the compression was effected to much by the oil ratio that was being run in the engines and if the engine had been run recently and many other factors like if the throttle plates are opened or closed, ideally the engine should be within 10 to 15 % from cyl to cyl.

Agree. My service manual, written for '97 and up mid range engines doesn't either. What it does do however, is talk about all cylinders reading within 15 lbs of each other. I always used 10 as the number.
