I bought a 1998 C60 Yahama outboard a few months back in mint condition. I had problems starting it after changing fuel/water separater. Forgot to pump fuel in filter. Ran less than one minute without water. Connected water hose but had no discharge from discharge on back of engine. Unclogged hose by running wire in hose. Plenty of water. Launched boat in river. After a few miles alarm sounded. Still have water from engine discharge. Shutdown for 30 minutes. Alarm stopped. So I ran slow back to boat ramp. Alarm did not come back on.
Still plenty of cooling water discharging from motor.
Did I damage impeller running a short time without water?
Thanks
George

most likly, the impeller and the housing can both melt in less than 30 seconds if started dry.
