25hsp merc missing at high speeds

my 25hsp merc 1982 idles well gets up to 9 mph then misses cant throttle any higher just gets worse. we changed gas blew out gas line changed plugs and wies and put a carb kit on. what nest and how

we did test in manual for ignition system all checked ok can the switchbox cause this and can i check it the shop wants 80$ to check it

If the engine starts and runs alright then it probably is the stator in alot of cases then acting that way it won't even show up with a DVA

Allways go to compression (FIRST) b/4 u buy or fix anything else. low or bad comp, motor wont run right can look like a number of things lol

Also, my experience with misfiring at high rpm's can be caused by bad spark plugs/wires etc.

the compression checked fine and both the same. we changed plugs and wires we are finding when it misses one plug does not get hot like the other and seems to have a weaker spark

one plug ran less hot than the other. we switched coils and wichever plug fed by the upper circuit of the switchbox doesn't get hot like the other plug.^
