I recently bought a 16ft Vanguard with a Mercury V6 1150.
I needed some parts and went to the local dealer here and he couldn't find my serial in his computer/manuals and said guess it's a pre-1970, but as far as other people told me the 1150 started only being made in 1970.. the serial# is 2642077 and is located on the plate attached to the motor-swivel bracket. I'd like to find out what year this motor is and why no one can find my serial. Are there any other markings or anything else i can check to find out what year this motor is ?

thanks in advance for any help from you guys and i'm sure i'll be asking a few more technical questions in the near future...

That serial no. comes out to be a 1969 110 hp.

Bhile, I pm'd you if you don't mind and Rick.. i checked that site before but can't find any serial match for a 1150.

Is there anything on the block/motor itself that i can check to find out what year and motor it really is in case someone either changed the swivel bracket w/serial# or changed the motor on it or changed the housing etc..?

Are there any markings or anything that can help me figure out what engine and year i really have ?

My 76 1150 has the serial # stamped on the engine on the starboard side.

That's because it's probably not an 1150. The hood may have been changed somewhere down the road. Happens alot....It's probably the 110 HP as was suggested...Some of the sharper Merc. guys could probably tell you if you post some pics....

The swivel bracket could have been changed too. My 83 150 has different nos on the bracket and the motor. Check the motor for a serial no. I believe its on a plug on top the motor. I get a chance I'll look and see where I found mine.

Your first post says it's a v6...are you sure as back in the 70's it was all inline 6's (tower of power)

The serial no for mine is on a silver plug on top of the motor. I found yours here http://www.marinshopen.se/
Its in Swedish or something but pretty easy to follow. Just click on Modellguide at the top.
