Easy Question, i think????

I have a 84' 75hp mariner...It starts fine, revs up great and once I get it going it is ok....But when I put it in gear it bogs down. I had a friend pump the ball when I was taking off and that seemed to help. I just bought the boat and the previous owner said he had the carbs adjusted about a month ago. Like I said it fires, revs great, but when you put it in gear it will die.....When I first put it in the water it does great....**Once I shut it off then restart it, that’s when it gives me trouble...If im in gear, then idle down or put it in natural then take off its ok? I dont know whats up....Please help! Thanks.....

If pumping the bulb helps, it could need a fuel pump rebuild.

Yes it sounds like you need to replace the fuel pump. A fairly ez job.

Once it gets going its fine. Do you still think it needs a fuel pump. Also today when we were pulling a tube i would slow down and it would kind of jerk, a quick stop and then it was ok. It wasnt the motor it seemed like i was hitting somthing. (i was in 40' or water.)

The fuel pump just a rebuild. Do you have a manual? if not get one, some of the best advice I have receivrd.

I'd replace the primer bulb first....

Can the primer bulbs get clogged up? I still dont understand why it will rev up fine, but when i put it into gear it dies???? I brought it home and hooked the hose up to it and put it in gear and it ran fine. Do you think the prop is wron?

check valves in primer bulb go bad,your problem sounds more like the fuel pump. easy rebuild.probably less than $25.00 to buy the rebuild kit and a new primer bulb.

I had the same thing happen this weekend when I put the motor in real water (it ran fine at home on muffs) - my idle was inconsistent, sometimes the motor would just stall out. Put on a new bulb on and all was good.

Yea my 90 does that too. only thing is my engine was just rebuilt. i have a new fuel pump and carb innards. so i guess my next step is a new bulb? well plus adjust everything and fine tune the engine! but mine sounds like your problem.
good advice, i would have scratched my head on this one for hours!
