1987 88 hp water,water and more water

I have a 1987 88 hp

Johnson that is not

only pouring water out

the nozzle and thru

prop exhaust but under

the powerhead just aft

of the steering pivot

point! This motor was

just rebuilt!Is this

supposed to happen?

Probably not. I am familiar with older models but assume it's the same. But it might be because you are running it on muffs with a lot of hose pressure?? See if it does it in the water. A severely worn water pump could cause it. What you are seeing is water that has bypassed the pump and gone up through the drive shaft chamber. Some is normal and drains out holes farther down. The upper ones are vents. It shouldn't get that full.

Im just going by if he has it in the water. Id say it mgiht be head gasket on one side.

Bet they left the thermostats out.

Did they put a new base gasket between the power head and the midsection? Bet you will need a new gasket. There are two gaskets. Be sure you get the one that has the metal sandwiched between the paper sides.
