Steering on 2005 Starcraft islander 3.0L I/O

Could be cable or hydraulic. All you have to do is look at it.
Does it have power steering? Look under the helm. Is there hoses or a large cable going to the transom? It's possible to have cable steering, but power assist.

What type of steering is on these boats. Is it a cable that controls a hydraulic ram at the transom?

The reason I am asking is I want to equip this boat with autopilot but need to know what kind to buy.

Your still going to have to look with ALL the different boat builders there is really NO standard system like a ford or chevy

Well i own a 1996 221 islander I/O v6 engine and it has hydraulic type steering,I have never seen cable steering on a boat that new(2005). I put raytheon auto pilot on mine(sport pilotplus) and i have had no problems.Be aware tho,that with lighter aluminum boats as these that the auto pilot will work continuously in windier type conditions cuz the boat moves so easy in the wind.
