Hi everyone!

I have a 1994 Merc 25HP on my pontoon boat equipped with QuickSilver control. The control seems VERY stiff like it's hard to move forward and back.

Any ideas where to start troubleshooting this one? I'm relativly new to boats (2nd year boating, 2nd boat)

Thanks,
Fe

Check the cables for kinks. Any change of direction requires a smooth arc -- no sharp bends. If that appears to be ok, disconnect the cables at the engine and then move the lever. If it works smoothly, the problem may be with the engine. If they still work hard, something is amiss in the control box or a cable has begun to fray inside its sheath.

I guess you know this but there is a friction screw in front of the control box that adjusts the friction on the lever.

Right , check the friction screw first . It is an allen type screw and can be found behind the lever at the base of it.

Or a knob at the front.

Actually,,, I didn't know that. that could VERY well be the problem and the first place I will start looking this weekend.

Thanks a bunch!
