I hate 'puters in general and AOL in particular.

I recently got my system reformatted and upgraded to WindowsXP.

Loaded the files I saved before the reformat. Many that I forgot to save are gone :'(

Loaded drivers for printer, scanner, camera. All worked okay.

Configured IP for wireless broadband. everything still seems okay.

Installed AOL 9.0. Seemed to work okay but I had to change my Email addy because I failed to remember my password.:0

I installed Mapsource U.S. Rec Lakes and Fishing Hotspots V5. Worked okay.

Tried to install Mapsource City Select but had a problem because the V5 would not install under XP and V6 was an upgrade that required V5 to be installed first. Finally got a detour from Garmin Support to install the V5. Then V6 installed and it seems to work okay.

Then the trouble started.

AOL 9.0 will now do nothing but Email. Will not open a website or browse, will not open a link. Cannot open the HELP link.
AOL sound went away.
AOL will not allow CC or BCC from the address book.
When I reboot, hot or cold, I get error messages about a "problem" with the internet link from both Windows and AOL.

I may have done something else by accident when I installed Mapsource City Select. I have no idea what.

How can I access AOL help via Email? How about IE?

I am contemplating reinstalling AOL 9.0. Can I overwrite the installed version?

Any other suggestions?

I would start by completely uninstalling AOL, restart, and then install it again. If that doesn't work you may want to try a different version - I think they have a bunch listed on their website. I have a similar problem with AOL on my laptop, it only does email, but that's all I ever use it for anyway so I never tried to fix it...

What are you using AOL for if you already have another ISP? I use it because I've had the same email address for 10 years and I don't want to change it...but if you had to change your address anyway maybe it's time to ditch AOL? They don't provide much you can't get free elsewhere.

I think now you can keep your AOL addy free as a web based account and use another ISP

Yep...starting next month their "bring your own access" plan is free, even when using the AOL software. I think it's normally over $15/month, but I've only been paying $5 all this time.d:)

Interested in hearing what you did:

"Configured IP for wireless broadband. everything still seems okay"

and what was the error message:
"When I reboot, hot or cold, I get error messages about a "problem" with the internet link from both Windows and AOL.
"
BTW, are you running a router? If so, what brand/model?
Is this cable,DSL, dial-up??

Their's a reason the computer guys often refer to it as AOHell.
I have had only trouble with it & it tends to slow things down.
I only keep it around because of my kids.
