Re: knocking noise not making any sense?????
I have had a small amount of experience here. While I had a manifold off I to dropped a bolt that I missed. It landed in the cylinder and actually punctured two holes in the top of the piston and became lodged in the third hole causing a definate knock and lots of blow by into my crank case .I found the bolt using a stethescope to isolate the knock and a fiberoptic camera to actually see in thge cylinder. I got very lucky in my fix though,I removed that head and had full access to the piston head.I then got a tig welder and removed the bolt and welded three holes without any damage to the block,or lower end components.STOP running this engine until you locate the source of the knock and blow by.It could mean the difference between $100 and $5000.:/
Don't forget to compression test each cylinder and note your findings do yourself a favor and do it wet and dry. This will tell you if you have ring problems.Don't rule out bearings(cam, crank, and rod)rod being the only one that travels so if the noise is moving there you go,piston or rod. Good luck to you, keep us informed
