how did the seal contact the motor? is the trim limit pin in place ?
find another dealer.
the oil is dark due to overheating and rubber contamination.
water contamination will turn the oil milky.
the seals are easy to change but require the proper spanner to remove the caps.
but to properly fush it will requiure dissasembling the unit.
Hey, rodbolt.
Thanks for reply.
Not sure about trim limit pin, where is it located?
Is the cap torqued real tight or can it be loosened without special tool? vice grip or strap wrench?
It looks to me like the engine stop has been bottoming out on the lft hand ram cap and the vibration has been wearing into the threaded housing cap and has already worn into the seals. About a 1/4 inch deep groove.
Dealer said not under any warranty due to age of engine, 6yrs. and has never heard of or seen this problem before.
First noticed trim not working sometime then got worse and worse till nothing... but trim motor is working.
I think some fluid has leaked out then fluid over heated even though it came out when reservoir cap removed.
I would attempt to fix, have mostly auto but some marine engine repair experience.
New to forum can we post pics?
Please advise, over $ 1,400 for new trim unit. Thanks, var007
