Evinrude or Johnson. Whats the difference?

I have just discovered my motor is in fact an Evinrude even though it was advertised as a Johnson when i bought it off Ebay.

Engine Numbers E140MIL CR + J044143

I also think its a military version (whatever difference that makes)

I assume that Evinrude/Johnson are essentialy one of the same and are manufactured by Bombardier in Canada?

If it is a CR motor then it is a 1984 model. In 1984 and for a number of years before and after that year, Johnson and Evinrude were exactly the same. They were made by OMC. Now, OMC no longer exists. It was bought by Bombardier, and the motors Bombardier makes today are not called OMC. They are still called Johnson and Evinrude, but now the 2 brands are no longer the same motors. As far as the military motors are concerned, they were designed to be dropped out of helicopters or airplanes along wiith inflatable boats, so they have some special features that allows them to survive that treatment. Maybe someone else more knowledgable on the military motors could comment.

Here we go again. Speaking as an ex-Evinrude dealer -- everyone knows that as the motors that came off the assembly line that started right away were painted blue and called Evinrudes. Any OMC outboard that had problems was painted white and labled a Johnson. Common knowledge.

Can anyone give me the tourque setting on the exhaust manifold bolts for a 1988 88 HP Johnson? Thanks
