My trim hydraulics were low on fluid. I bought some trim fluid and some gear lube. They came in a small tube (11oz). Anyway the tubes were identical and I grabbed the wrong one.:^ I put about 10oz in (OMC Selecta Trim) 1983. Anyway, any consequences to doing this? It works fine, I would think since its thinker it would help the minor leak I have. I plan on taking the rams out in the fall/winter and rebuilding them.

No takers? I imagine it won't hurt anything as I hear you can use oil instead of the tilt/trim fuild. I guess in cold climates it could pose a problem due to the oil being thicker.

Since no one will say anything, let me start by saying I know nothing about the old stringer drives, don't even want to.
On any trim pump that uses ATF or regular engine oil, viscosity is the big thing. The thick stuff doesn't work. For that matter, mixing gear lube and ATF don't work either.
Before I used it, I would drain all that gear lube and other stuff out of it and start over.
Somehow I think you already knew that, just wanted someone to tell you to do it right the first time, or..........
