Hi,
on my johnson's 1979 25 hp, a.C. lighting, there's 3 leads coming from stator and connected to terminals on external side of the powerhead. Yellow lead is connected to B, y/grey to C and y/blue to A.
I have to connect electrical accessories, could someone tell me how to connect +and ground of my accessories.
thanks

Re: johnson electrical

Not an expert on that one, but remember that is AC for lights. Not intended for 12V. DC accessories. At least that is the way I understand it...subject to correction.

Re: johnson electrical

if you have electric start your pos and neg battery cable will take care of that.

i've not electric start, and i think on three leads (y, y/g and y/b), adding a rectifier this one should give me 8 to 14 v dc on the red lead like electric start models..has someone tryed this ?

Re: johnson electrical

what I would do: select ACV on my multimeter, connect it to the yellow and yellow/gray, and observe the readings with the motor running, preferably in the water so I could rev it up a bit.

Rectifier voltage drop will most likely be around 1.4 volts. So I would look for at least 14 volts AC at idle. If I was satisfied with my test results I would order the rectifier for the electric start version of my motor. It'll have four leads, a red DC (+), black DC (-), and the other two AC input (doesn't matter which goes where).

You could probably power DC accessories with the output, but a battery would be better.

I'm no expert...but that'd be my approach.

Let us know

Re: johnson electrical

Without a battery the electrical system will have no regulation whatsoever and output voltage will go quite hight and blow any bulbs you may have. As for electronic items, they generally have overvoltage protection and will shut down if over powered. Do not run without a battery -- even a small one is better than none at all.

Re: johnson electrical

ok,
i connect accessories to small 12 v battery, i connect a rectifier (1985 model with 4 leads, y y/g y/bl and red ) to the stator leads. From rectifier, red to + battery, neg battery to ground motor. iddle speed ac volt is about 10 volts, high speed about 15 volts. I think it can run correctly. for dc lighting and small accessories.
thanks for all. I doesn't know that ac voltage was product by powered...i thougt it was dc....
