was out today running for about 30 minutes, motor started missing. started trouble shooting. found ignition coil very hot, could not hold onto it. checked volts to + terminal. running had 11 volts, motor off & key on had 7 volts. boat would start and run up to 2500-3000 rpms but not any more. all other components seem ok, new plugs, points, condersor, filters. any suggestions of what could be the culprit are appreciated.

A hot coil (they do get hot by the way) might be caused by points not opening enough...I'd recheck your ignition again. Try a new set of points too...there cheap.

Your voltage readings seem backwards, to me.

11 volts running is a little high. It should be in the 9-10 range. You should have a ballast resitor in line that reduces voltage.
