I have a 1983 SeaRay 260 sundance weekender w/ 5.7 mercrusier has a 16x16p prop and at wot it running 2200rpm's . Had 8 or 9 people on board and 100 gal of fuel , if I go to 16x12p or 16 x11p is this going to be to much with a lighter load, say with two people and less fuel or is there a happy med.

I think 2200 is WAY too low, even with a 16P prop, but we really need to know more. what is WOT without 8-9 people onboard? I think that for one reason or another you are not making the power that you should be. Time to go over the tune up basics, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, compression check, fuel filter(s), is there water in the gas, how old is the gas..........

It must be running righr before you can chose a prop.

I would check the tack against a shop one to be sure it is correct

How big are those 8 or 9 people thats a LOT of weight on a 5.7 :)

What is your history with this boat? Have you ever used this boat/prop combo before and gotten above 4K RPM? Under what conditions? What altitude are you at?

The gas is fresh, motor starts, runs, good response in neut. !Very few hours on tuneup. Friend has a 81 268 searay w/5.7 he had to prop down to a16x13p and he could go to a 16x12p or 16x11p he is still not getting 4000 wot with the 16x13p, it is getting on plane !

I'm no expert by far, but I think it wouldn't hurt to drop down to a 14 dia and stay with the 16p and see what that gives you at WOT. You should be in mid to upper 4,000 rpm range.
