Oil loss in lower unit on Force 15hp

My Force 15hp had some water in the lower unit mixed with the oil. Changed the oil and used it many times (approx) 3 gas tanks.

Then last time I took it out an odd whissel sound was heard and since I was close to the boat ramp I pulled it out.

Once at home, checked the lower unit oil and found it to be of gray color which indicates water infiltration. Got new oil in it and ran it 5 minutes at idle (gear engaged)in a drum and drained the lower unit again, only to find LOTS of water and very litte oil remaining.

I see not leakage anywhere .... how can the oil get out and water come in in such little time ??

Thanks

Take the lower unit and place it in the water tank with no oil in it. Use a rubber plug with a basketball air needle in it and use this as the vent plug. Pump on air pump a couple of times and watch where the air bubbles come from. It could be any place. Seals for the vent and drain plug, prop shaft seal is totally shot are the most likely spots. Drive shaft seal up by the water pump is shot. To loose the entire quart of oil in that time frame seems strange. There should have been a bunch of oil floating in your test tank.

Maybe there was but i could not see it since the tank was overflowing in my driveway water canal.

I thought defective seals would cause oil loss slowly, but on my engine it happened like flowing out real kwick.

Once the motor was out of the water, either from boat or from tank, all parts on lower unit were rather dry from oil. I was expecting to visualise some oil leaking somewhere ...
