I'm a newbie on this forum, but hoping that the wealth of experience out there can help me. I have an older 130 on a 19 foot Grady-White. This is my second summer with the rig. This summer, after hours of trouble free operation, I trailered the boat to the lake, slipped it in the water, and cranked with choke, without, closed throttle, partly open, and no start. Not even signes of combustion. Very unusual, because it has always been such a quick starter. Took it home, put the muffs on, and took a plug out to check spark. As my wife turned the key, I grounded the plug, and the engine immediately started and ran. Two fishing trips later, same thing. Taking a plug out and cranking confirmed no spark. Took it into the local dealer for a fix, and he said it started fine and couldn't find anything wrong. Ran fine for a couple of months, then last Sunday, after being out on the lake, all day, tried to start the boat after it sat tied up for 10 minutes, same thing . . . it would spin but make no effort to start. Its frustrating, because the problem is random, has happened both hot and cold, and will never act up at the shop. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks . . . Gary.

Start with the very obvious things like a touchy kill switch if you have one. Disconnect and clean ignition system ground wires. Disconnect ignition system connectors. Inspect and clean them. Check for loose or corroded pins.

if the cdi is mounted on the side you can also dissconect the white wire to it, this will eliminate all kill circuits.
