IF it's been siezed for five years it would make a good anchor. Even if you do get it free, it will likely destroy itself in a very short time. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just don't venture far from the dock. If you get it loose, don't try to start it immediately. Do an oil change, remove the distributor and then run the oil pump with a drill to lub the bottom end. Then reinstall the distributor and see what happens.

If "rust in dip stick" means on the dipstick I might suspect it was put away full of water. I wouldn't spend anything on it other than time...

Liquid Wrench is one item...I know some old timers that have used two other items to unlock the rings of old farm tractors...

1. Diesel sprayed in cylinders.
2. Alcohol sprayed in the cylinders.

Just a couple other options if the liquid wrench does not do the trick.

Just an observation but if you got rust on the dipstick water/moisture may be in the crankcase from rain/condensation...and if that is the case it may not be the rings that is froze up...may be the main and rod bearings...

Like the guy said...Don't take it far from the ramp.

When you launch, don't forget 2 things.

1. Pull your bilge plug.
2. A cell phone to call your insurance agent.

agree with chief.

rusty dipstick a good indicator it has or had water in the oil. even if you get it free, the problem that caused the water to get into the oil is probably still there, usually pinhole leak in the heads over exhaust ports or bad risers / manifolds.

rings are probably rusted to the cylinder walls because of the water intrusion. even if you get them free, the rings will be destroyed as well as the cylinder walls.

boat anchor. welcome to the bane of inboard boat owners. fortunatly, the 5.7 is one of the least expensive engines to replace. cheaper than a v6 even. can get a new long block for under 3k, and an entire engine for under 5k. and before you start crying, keep in mind a base big block is going for 10 to 12k now. 6 to 7k for a long block.

I've heard of using marvel mystery oil in the cylinders... and let 'em sit for a while, them refill, etc.

Valve seals prolly dried up. Main seal prolly dried up.

If'n it were me, I'd disassemble and rebuild if the machine shop said the cylinders were in good order.

No not car motor, TRUCK motor. repeat, TRUCK motor if you are going that way. A longblock marine is hardly any more and ready to add on the bits you already have.

Re: 350 mercurser sitting 5 yrs ran before frozen how can i free it

I restore old trucks. I use 1 part Marvel Mystery Oil, ! part diesel fuel and 1 part ATF fluid. Fill each cylinder to the top and wait. After 1 week try to turn the crank. I have had motors that were stuck for 20+ years free up with this mixture. Some times it take several weeks. Even if the engine frees up the rings can be unseated and it will burn oil. I agree even if you get it going how dependable will it be?
