Hi everyone,
I just joined and hope someone can help. I've got a 1971 4hp 1cyl merc.. . no spark. new coil new points.
I just got a new stator that is supposed to replace stators on many models. The new stator has a green wire and a orange (salmon) wire. The old stator has one green wire. Where do these wires go???? I don't want to fry anything. Both stators have a threaded ground(I assume) hole for attachment of a ground wire.

thanks

Re: stator for merc 40

Salmon, goes to the kill switch, and this system is a ground on system it will not run without the salmon grounded but most of the trobles in the system are caused by the insulator on the point stud grounding out you will not find it with a OHM meter as it is a high volage leak to ground, hunderds of stators have been change for intermittent spark when the problem is usally the insulator being cracked
