I'm looking for an on-line source to buy a test prop for my '94 20HP evinrude. I've checked ebay & iBoats...to no luck.

Does anyone know of a resource?

Re: Test Prop

Even with a test prop, you need a large baffled tank to run it unless to do the testing at a ramp with the boat on the trailer, but you can do that with a regular prop.

So, a garbage can will not work?

Re: Test Prop

A test prop works primarily by working against itself. Loosely speaking, sort of the same idea as trying to pick up a chair while sitting on it. But they also have a certain amount of thrust and stir up a lot of commotion in the tank. 20hp is an awful lot of energy to try to dissipate in a garbage can. It would be better than a regular prop, but don't expect to be able to run it very fast in there.

To answer your first question, a Johnson/Evinrude dealer can get you one, if you want him to order it.

Re: Test Prop

Sounds like I'll have to have the boat in the water. I certainly do not like the idea of tuning/testing my motor while also driving the boat to avoid other boats, chop & other objects.:^

Is a test prop made of plastic ...or metal? And are they relatively cheap?

Thanks for evryone's help,

They are metal, at least I've never seen a plastic one. Cheap? I had a complete set of them at the time I quit the outboard repair business in 1978 and left them all behind. Don't tell me what they would be worth today, my heart probably could not stand the shock.
