I just got the steering wheel I ordered from Iboats and found out that all tapers are not the same. I will attach a picture of the old wheel and hopefully one of you can help me figure out what I need to order. Thanks![

Ayuh,.........
#1,...... Resize your picture,........ It's Way To Big,......

#2,......
Reassemble the Wheel,+ you can Remove the rest of the Hub.......
That's the Shaft,+ Key in the center..... The New Wheel fits On It........

How do I get the key and the hub off? Thanks for the help.

Reassemble the Wheel,......Put the Nut back on, so that it's Just Flush with the end of the Shaft,......
Put your knees under it,+ apply Pressure to it in the Off direction,.....
Then WHACK the Nut/ Shaft with a Hammer..........

1 blow is All it takes.......

Re: Steering wheel order

Well, I tried what you explained and had no luck. I feel like, if I hit it any harder I will hurt the threads on the shaft. Is it possible there is a different way to remove that silver hub? I appreciate all your help, I'm really not trying to be an idiot here.:^

I there a set screw anywhere arond the center section?

If you pu the nut on flush with the end of the shaft or a little bit out you will not bugger the threads. worst that'll happen is mess up the nut.

make sure you have preasure in both direction and give it a " sharp " blow with the hammer. you want a little vibration to ring the taper loose.

Re: Steering wheel order

You Might be able to use a Puller of some sort,....

But that'll just be a mechanical way of replacing the Pressure from your Knees.....

It's a Tapered Shaft,.......
Pressure,+ a Whack is How tapers are Broken Free......

Re: Steering wheel order

Thanks a ton guys. I finally got it. I had to hit it harder than I felt comfortable, but it finally came off (after wd30). How the heck do people know how to do that? I stared at that thing for an hour wondering how the heck it came off.
