Re: Bob Knight

With all the lack of respect for authority in this day and age, I believe Mr. Knight's tactics should be practiced by ALL teachers and coaches everywhere.

(Duck and cover)

You're right about his graduation rate. I would have no problem sending my kid to play for him. Way too much P.C. and not enough old fashioned dicipline and respect in the world today.

Re: Bob Knight

18 year of age makes you and adult but doesn't make you mature. Most don't grow up until at least 25. It is all a learning process. Nobody is making those boys play basketball for Knight. And his record of creating men out of boys is outstanding. His methods are a bit odd - no make that old fashion, and no I don't agree with throwing chairs or choking someone, but a tap on the chin to get someones attention is nothing that shouldn't happen.

These reporters pretending to be men but are nothing more than PC women have no business judging the guy without actually knowing the man. I don't know where this wife beating thing comes from, perhaps someone could post the information.

Re: Bob Knight

"Saw the slap on TV".

So did I, but I also saw it from the other side, where you could see his hand.

It was not a slap. He put his knuckle under the boy's chin and lifted it.

The media want shock and controversy. That's why they keep showing it from the boy's right where it looks like a slap. A deliberate lie.

I quoted the above for no other reason than I like it.

I think it is a bit of a stretch to go from his antics that have made the news to being a wife beater or worse as some have suggested. I think he is one of the top BB coaches of all time. Not only does he get results on the floor, but as pointed out earlier, he graduates his kids. I believe he just suspended a player for missing class or doing poorly in a class. He did not have to, but did anyway, which is unusual to say the least in today's "win at any cost mentality." Where's all the biotching about that?

Should he have made contact in the way in which he did...probably not. Does that make him a violent wife beater....absolutely not. They are independent of one another.

Compare Knight to Bob Huggins while he coached at UC. BH cared about one thing and one thing only, winning. He could have cared less about his athletes unless they were ineligible. A world of diff between the two. I have zero respect for BH, and he never touched his athletes, that I am aware of. I have all the respect for BK. I believe if he was violent as some suggest, someone would have been injured by now, including his wife of many, many, many years. That sort of thing (injuries) eventually makes the news.

I hear more former players with good things to say compared to those that don't. In fact, I am not sure I have ever heard a former player say negative things about him. They are the ones that should know, not us, not the media.
