I am winterizing the boat for the first time and the local marine shop had the Seloc manual. Figured it would be good, but I was sadly mistaken. Anyway, how many drains plugs are on the Merc 260 and where are they located? I've located the drains for the risers, manifolds, engine block port and starboard towards the middle of the engine and drained the water pump hoses. In another post I read something about a drain plug on the bottom front of the engine? Also, if the power steering has a cooler, where would that be located? This is on a 1982 21' Regal Regency.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Is the Starboard side towards the rear supposed to be for the power steering cooler? And, is the "JK" your intials or "just kidding" that you don't know of any drain plugs on the bottom front of the engine?

Thanks,
Dan

Ayuh,......... I think JK is Always Kidding,................d:)

Yes,.... He's talking about the P/Steering Cooler,..... It's In-Line on the In-Coming line from the Outdrive, to the Front of the Motor......

There's No other plugs in the front of the motor,.... Unless 1 was added to the Waterpump,....But you've Pull that Big Hose.....

Sounds good, I believe I checked them all then. Is the P/Steering cooler just underneath the Starboard manifold? If so, I pulled both hoses on it and a little water trickled out. The only thing I am concerned about is that most other posts state that the their engine takes 5 gallons of Antifreeze. I was only able to use approximately 3.5 gallons... should this be a cause for concern? I didn't use the A/F through the muffs method... I just took off every cooling hose and filled them till they were full.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Mercruiser 260 drain plugs

Dan, one thing I forgot to mention is that it is very advisable to take a long skinny object & probe the manifold/block drains to insure that they fully drain....
They can & will clog from scale....
That could explain your missing liquid....
I prefer Bondo's method, just drain it.......Haut
